Johanna Malangré makes her Scandinavian debut with the Helsinborg Symphony Orchestra
Johanna malangré takes over from Cathrine Winnes to direct the helsingborg symphony orchestra in a programme of copland, piazzolla and Ørbeck
Johanna Malangré stepped in last minute to direct the Swedish orchestra, in a new programme of 20th-century works by the American composer, Aaron Copland, the Argentinian composer, Ástor Piazzolla, and the somewhat less well-known Norwegian female composer, Anne-Marie Ørbeck. Written in 1944, and premiered in 1954, Ørbeck’s Symphony in D major was the first symphony composed for full orchestra by a Norwegian woman, and thus marks a landmark in the history of music making in Scandinavia.
The two concerts conducted by Malangré were received with great critical acclaim and the performance was broadcast in February on the Swedish Radio. Malangré’s extensive introduction at the start of the performance was praised, in which she drew attention to various features of Ørbeck’s symphony.
