BIOGRAPHY

Praised as ‘a natural conductor’ by the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, award-winning German conductor Johanna Malangré has been the new Chief Conductor of the Orchestre de Picardie in France since September 2022.

Johanna has been noted for her electrifying musicality and imaginative leadership. She is passionate about communicating the world of orchestral music to a wider public and has a special interest in curating programmes aimed at introducing new audiences to classical music, all of which she is now bringing to the public in the North of France.

Recent additional invitations include concerts with the Philharmonisches Orchester Kiel, Wuppertaler Sinfonieorchester, Dortmund Philharmoniker, Münchner Rundfunkorchester, Musikcollegium Winterthur, Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz, Collegium Novum Zürich, Göttinger Symphonieorchester, Real Filharmonía de Galicia, İstanbul State Symphony Orchestra, Luzerner Sinfonieorchester, Helsinborgs Symfoniorkester, Norrköpping Symfoniorkester, Orchestre National de France, Orchestres de Pau, Besançon and Orchestre de Bretagne, with which she recorded ‘Sensations’, a ERATO/Warner Classics CD with soloist Gauthier Capuçon. 

Highlights of the 23/24 & 24/25 seasons include conducting a video opera as part of the Luzern Festival (November 2023), her debut at Opéra de Lille with ‘Die Fledermaus’ (June 2024), her debut at Orchestre National de Lyon (November 2024), a concert dedicated to the music by Schönberg with Orchestre National de Nice (December 2024), a project, which was initiated at the Paris Philharmonie earlier that year, her debut with Münchner Philharmoniker, Jönköping Sinfonietta, Orquestra Sinfónica de Tenerife and Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra.
