World premiere opera ‘Virilité’ to be conducted by Victor Jacob
Victor Jacob will conduct a new opera ‘Virilité’ at Opéra Orchestre national Montpellier
Arranged by Steven Tanoto, Virilité is an opera that explores the modern-day masculinity identity crisis where society’s traditional roles fade away. Using the pretext of a choir rehearsal, romantic repertoire by Saint-Saëns, Schubert, Weber, Berlioz, Brahms, Orff, Reger and Mendelssohn will be performed.
Stage director Alicia Geugelin and dramaturg Elise Schobeß present male identity by restructuring the customary social representation. This creates new possibilities where the world of men split up leaving everyone the freedom to define themselves according to their desires, questions, feelings.
With Victor Jacob helming the role of music director, the opera will premiere on the 20th November 2021 with Opéra Orchestre national de Montpellier.
