Justin Taylor's upcoming solo recitals at Opéra de Lille and BOZAR
jUSTIN TAYLOR’s upcoming performances include solo recitals at Opéra de Lille and BOZAR
Friday 7th October | 8pm | Opéra de Lille
Wednesday 12th October | 8pm | Bozar, Brussels
Justin Taylor likes to push his instrument beyond the limits of sound and boundaries of repertoire. For this concert, he combines the audacity of two giants, the Italian baroque Scarlatti and the contemporary Hungarian Ligeti. A taste for extremes? No doubt!
From the former, he has retained two dazzling sonatas, ornamented jewels with a Spanish influence. From the other, the hallucinatory - and hallucinating - Continuum from 1968, inspired by the rotary presses of a printing press, where, writes the composer, “speed leads to the fusion of successive sounds, in such a way that the flight of the prestissimo gives the impression of virtual immobility. But this immobility, so often recognised in my works, clicks and buzzes here like a ghost”.
