Tanguy de Williencourt to present Schubert-Liszt’s Le Chant du Cygne D. 957 at Théâtre des Champs-Élysée

Fresh off his recital with international soprano, Renee Fleming at Théâtre du Châtelet, Tanguy de Williencourt will present a solo recital Schubert and Liszt version of Le Chant du Cygne D.957. The piece is a piano transcription of the 14 Lieder of Schubert’s Schwanengesang cycle.

After Schubert’s death, he left some unpublished Lieder. Music publisher Tobias Haslinger brought them together in a collection entitled: Le Chant du cygne . Seven melodies by the young Ludwig Rellstab were said to have passed onto the hands of Beethoven before landing on the desk of Schubert. Six more pieces by Heinrich Heine were later added. The fourteenth piece of the set was named “Sehnsucht”, translated as longing or yearning. It is the nostalgic languor that fills the heart and the work of the composer. Ten years later, Liszt seizes the notebook on behalf of the same publisher.
