Although Handel is known as a composer of operas, less is known about his activity as musical director at the Royal Academy of Music from 1719 to 1728.
While Handel's ambition was to make London the new capital of opera, he attracted two Italian composers, Attilio Ariosti and Giovanni Battista Bononcini, who, like him, enjoyed great success. Eva Zaïcik and Le Consort perform several of their virtuoso arias.
