Behind the scenes of the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées
Composers like Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin or Liszt all wrote for the pianoforte. Nowadays, this instrument is rare in theaters, but some performers like Justin Taylor give it back its nobility.
Our contemporary ears are these days so accustomed to the soft and controlled sound of modern pianos, to their round and velvety resonance that the pianoforte is often forgotten in programming and unknown to the public. It’s biting sound, frank and direct timbre and ample bass create an immediate intimacy and this instrument deserves to be given a more important place at the concert.
