Dmitry Shishkin makes his debut at Le Festival Radio France Occitanie Montpellier

 

Dmitry Shiskin will make his debut at Le Festival Radio France Occitanie Montpellier on July 15th and 16th.

Dmitry will present a programme of Scriabine, Medtner, Prokofiev and Drevalev. Like Chopin and Liszt, the four Russian composers on this programme are or were themselves virtuoso pianists, which is evident in the works presented here. The deepest poetry is combined with the art of piano writing at its best - between technical prowess and the deployment of all the most subtle musical components - harmonies in half-tone, suggestion of imaginary landscapes or phantasmagoria.

In 1896, Scriabin, wrote his 'Fantasy Sonata', which is written as if improvised in the andante, and in the presto offers an extraordinary moment of pure virtuosity. With his character pieces, rooted in the memory of the popular world but with an extreme refinement of writing, Nicolaï Medtner, who deserves to be better known in France, offers a whole whimsical, impressionistic, dreamy world. Prokofiev was still a student at the St Petersburg Conservatory when he wrote the Études op. 2 in 1909, foreshadowing the hammering, dissonance and radicalism of his future works. Ivan Drevalev, a pianist himself, in this recital he represents the very new Russian generation of performer-composers and explicitly follows in the footsteps of Liszt, composing in his turn a paraphrase on Paganini's famous Campanella...
