BIOGRAPHY

Le Caravansérail (in English: Caravanserai, literally a group of people travelling together) was formed in 2015 by the harpsichordist Bertrand Cuiller and has since established itself as a versatile baroque ensemble.  Their repertoire encompasses chamber music works (Couperin’s Leçons de Ténèbres),  instrumental music (Bach’s harpsichord concertos) as well as vocal works including Domenico Scarlatti’s Stabat Mater, Henry Purcell’s famous Odes and operas from both the 17th and 18th centuries.

The ensemble performs extensively in France:  Midsummer festival in Hardelot, Folle Journée in Nantes, La Chaise-Dieu Festival, Abbaye de Royaumont, Château de Versailles, Festival de Saintes, Théâtres in Caen, Besançon, La Rochelle and Compiègne.   They were the resident-ensemble at Abbaye de Royaumont from 2015 to 2017 and have announced their new residency at Festival de Pontoise for the next three years.

In Europe, Le Caravansérail has appeared at the Concertgebouw in Bruges (also for the opening of the 2024 MA festival), Tage Alter Musik in Regensburg, BOZAR in Brussels, Festival de Rougemont in Switzerland, Namur Concert Halla and will perform at Amuz in Anvers and DeBijloke in Gent next season.

Following the recording of two CDs of English music (A Fancy) and Sacred Italian music (Domenico Scarlatti's Stabat Mater), the ensemble has released their most successful Bach programme with four harpsichords to great critical acclaim for the Ramée (Outhere) label.

The ensemble is supported by the French Ministry of Culture, Spedidam, Mécénat Musical Société Générale and Caisse des Dépôts.
